CADMAP Survey the Iconic Kia Oval for Floodlight Replacement – Topographical and Utility Surveys Delivered - by Michael brett
CADMAP Limited completed topographical and utility surveys at the Kia Oval Cricket Ground for floodlight replacement works. Discover how our expert surveying services supported this prestigious project.
Surveying the Historic Kia Oval Cricket Stadium for Modernisation Works
CADMAP Limited was recently appointed to undertake a comprehensive topographical and underground utility survey at the iconic Kia Oval Cricket Ground in London. The purpose of the survey was to support the design and installation of new floodlights, part of a broader upgrade to this historic sporting venue.
Located in the heart of Kennington, the Kia Oval is one of the most renowned cricket stadiums in the world, home to Surrey County Cricket Club and host to international Test matches. Working on a site of such national significance required a meticulous and professional approach—exactly what CADMAP is known for.
Detailed Topographical Survey for Accurate Ground Modelling
Our expert land surveyors used the Leica RTC360 laser scanner and Trimble GNSS technology to carry out a high-accuracy topographical land survey of the stadium and surrounding grounds. This included:
Accurate mapping of all surface features, including stands, walkways, service roads, and access points.
Precise spot levels and contour mapping to model ground slopes and elevation changes.
Detailing of stadium infrastructure, such as seating areas, entrances, and service zones, essential for planning the placement of new lighting columns.
The final deliverables included a comprehensive AutoCAD DWG, 3D point cloud, and PDF drawings—ensuring the architects and engineers could work confidently with accurate geospatial data.
PAS 128 Utility Mapping to Support Safe Excavation
Alongside the topographical survey, CADMAP carried out a full PAS 128 Type B utility survey, using ground penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic location (EML), and radio detection methods. This was critical to identify and map all underground services, including:
Electrical cabling, which posed a risk during the excavation of new light column bases.
Water and drainage pipes, requiring protection or relocation.
Telecoms and gas lines, mapped with high positional accuracy using GPS.
All data was captured, georeferenced, and overlaid onto the topo survey for a unified utility map. This helped mitigate the risk of service strikes during the floodlight replacement project.
A Seamless Project with Safety and Accuracy at the Forefront
At CADMAP, we pride ourselves on working seamlessly in live environments, and the Kia Oval project was no exception. All work was completed safely, efficiently, and to deadline, with minimal disruption to the daily operations of the cricket ground.
This project is a shining example of how professional land surveying, utility detection, and GPR surveys can directly support infrastructure upgrades in sensitive and high-profile locations.

Cadmap surveys 500 BP Petrol Stations across the UK and Ireland
CADMAP Surveys 500 BP Petrol Stations for EV Charging Rollout – Topographical & Utility Surveys Across the UK and Ireland for Motor Fuel Group (MFG) and for British Petroleum - BP - by Michael brett
CADMAP Limited delivered topographical and PAS 128 utility surveys at 500 BP petrol stations across the UK and Ireland for EV charger installations. Learn how accurate data supports sustainable infrastructure.
Supporting the Future of Transport: CADMAP Survey 500 BP Sites for EV Charging Point Installations
As the UK and Ireland accelerate toward a cleaner, greener transport future, CADMAP Limited is proud to play a key role in the nationwide electric vehicle (EV) charging rollout. We were appointed to survey over 500 BP petrol stations across the UK and Ireland to support the installation of EV charging points.
Each site required both a high-accuracy topographical land survey and a PAS 128 utility detection survey to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective planning for civil engineers and electrical contractors.
Fast, Scalable Survey Solutions for a National Rollout
Working on hundreds of active forecourts required precise logistics and minimal disruption. Our teams were deployed strategically across the UK and Ireland, completing multiple sites per week using a combination of:
Leica Total Stations and GNSS equipment for surface mapping
3D laser scanning for capturing existing structures and access routes
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic Locators (EML) for utility tracing
The result? Fully georeferenced AutoCAD drawings, digital terrain models, and utility overlays delivered on time and in full compliance with PAS 128 standards.
Topographical Land Surveys for Charger Design & Positioning
Each EV charger location needed to be precisely planned to accommodate:
Safe pedestrian access
Vehicle turning circles and queuing zones
Avoidance of existing canopy supports, signage, or shop entrances
Level surfaces for charger foundation slabs
Our topographical surveys detailed all surface features, including kerbs, bollards, street furniture, drainage covers, buildings, islands, and markings—ensuring every design team had the accurate spatial data they needed to plan the charger layout with confidence.
PAS 128 Utility Surveys to Avoid Costly Service Strikes
Given the complexity of active petrol station forecourts, avoiding service conflicts was critical. CADMAP delivered Type B PAS 128 utility surveys to detect and map:
Fuel lines, often in close proximity to proposed charger bases
Electrical and telecoms ducts
Storm and foul water drainage systems
Gas and water mains
All services were traced using a multi-method approach combining GPR scanning, radio frequency detection, and site records. We overlaid this data directly onto the topographical drawings, giving BP’s design team full visibility of the underground infrastructure.
